To help you with the coming exam, the office hour will be open again tomorrow (Building C7.2 Rm 2.11 10:00am).
Please come to ask your tutors if you have any questions and cannot attend the tutorial on Wednesday.

Note: We will only discuss topics on machine learning and bioinformatics during the Q&A session on Thursday, since we received questions on these two areas only.
 

The first exam registration status has been updated EXCEPT for "business informatics" students, who registered via FlexNow. I will inform you once more once the FlexNow registrations are imported. Otherwise, please check if your registration status is correct.
You will still need to meet the admission criteria in order to write the exam. The admission status will be updated once all assignments are corrected.

 

First exam registration will end tomorrow 28.Jan at 18:00. Please remember to register on LSF=HISPOS, FlexNow=ViPA, or CMS.
FlexNow registration: The current exam you see in the system refers to the main exam. Further instructions on re-exam registration will be posted later.
Exchange / Erasmus students: Now you can all register by CMS. Admission to the exam will be granted after all assignments are corrected.

Cheat sheet update: TWO pieces of A4 size paper with notes HAND-WRITTEN on both sides (total 4 sides) are allowed. (or digitally hand-written on a tablet; printed out without downsizing)

The last lecture (5. Feb 12:00-14:00) will be a Q&A session. If you have some particular questions or would like the lecturers to revisit some topics, please post the questions on the forum beforehand, by 1 Feb.

due to the black ice warning that has been given out for Saarbrücken tomorrow morning, the lecture will take place online via zoom.

This saves you the risk of having to travel and the uncertainty whether busses will run.

Since the solution will be discussed at the tutorial on Wednesday, the submission deadline will be set to 12:00 at noon on Wednesday (instead of 18:00)

The final exam of EDSAI will take place on 12.2.2026 from 10:00-11:30 am in Günter-Hotz-Hörsaal (E2 2)

In order to take the first written exam and earn credits, please register on the LSF (=HISPOS) or FlexNow, depending on your study program.
Registration is now open until 28.1.2026. (You are responsible to observe any other deadlines of your study program, if any)

If your program does not support registration on LSF (=HISPOS) nor FlexNow (e.g. Erasmus student or other subjects), please register on the CMS system.

To be admitted to the exam, you need to have at least 100 points from the assignments and have at most two assignment sheets with 0 points.

As evidence of your registration, please upload a screenshot of the registration in the assignment section.

 

Hi all, Due to the low attendance, we decided to merged all tutorials to the one on Wednesday (12:15 p.m.) and halt the office hour as well. The tutors will take turn to hold the tutorials on Wednesday. If you do want to discuss something with the tutors in person and cannot make it on Wednesday, please make use of the office hour on Tuesday but contacting your tutor in advance.

As announced in the last lecture, the lecture tomorrow has to be cancelled due to an emergency of Prof. Demberg.
That means the lecture will start again after the Christmas and new year break.

Assignment 6, which covers the materials until the last lecture, will still be released tomorrow as scheduled.
The due date of the assignment is 4 Jan 2026.

If you have difficulty following the lectures, you should come to the tutorials and/or office hour section.
In addition to explaining the assignment solutions (Note: they will not be uploaded elsewhere), the tutors can review the material and key concepts at a slower pace to support your understanding.
The attendance of the tutorials have been exceptionally low, so I would like to draw your attention to this opportunity.

There were a few cases of slightly late submission of Assignment 1, which we accepted exceptionally since you were still getting used to the CMS.
From Assignment 2 onwards, no exceptions will be made; only assignments that are submitted on time via the CMS will be graded. Please pay attention and submit before the deadline.

In addition, we would like to ask students who decided not to take this course to deregister for easier organization. Thank you.

As mentioned in the guest lecture yesterday: Douglas Leasure (https://www.demography.ox.ac.uk/people/douglas-leasure) from the University of Oxford will give a talk today, Friday, October 31 on his work on population mapping in Gaza.

The lecture will start at 1pm (sharp) in building E1.7, 3rd floor, room 3.23.

Feel free to join if you'd like to learn more about Doug's work in humanitarian contexts.

Please remember to form your assignment teams asap. The first graded assignment will be released next Monday and you should submit it in teams of 2-3 students. The deadline of teams grouping is 00:00 2.Nov, 18 hours before the first assignment deadline. Please make use of the forum to find team mates. It is not necessary to have members from the same tutorial.

On the other hand, if you do not plan to take the course for credits and submit all assignments, please do not join any teams..
